Introduction to DFSCA and Biennial Review

Overview:

This session will provide participants with an overview of the federal regulations required by the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act. Participants will be able to identify the steps toward compliance, gain an understanding of the key components of a biennial review, and engage in dialog to discuss best practices. This session will be conducted in a blended format, including webinar and open discussion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the Federal Regulations required by DFSCA (EDGAR Part 86)
  • Identify steps to ensure compliance with DFSCA
  • Understand the purpose and components of a Biennial Report
  • Identify key partners to support Biennial Report efforts

Inventory and Assessment of Programs

Overview:

This session will discuss what programs may be identified as part of a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program (DAAPP), and what data can be used to determine the effectiveness of programs. This session will be conducted in a blended format, including webinar and open discussion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify what programs / initiatives / services may be categorized as AOD prevention
  • Identify ways to collect a thorough inventory of AOD programs / initiatives / services
  • Learn ways in which the College AIM tool can help you identify components of your prevention program
  • Identify ways to evaluate your prevention program

Policy Review and Policy Enforcement 

Overview:

This session will discuss what policies may be identified as part of a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program (DAAPP), enforcement strategies, and ways to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your DAAPP. This session will be conducted in a blended format, including webinar and open discussion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key components of a compliant AOD policy
  • Identify methods for collecting an inventory of AOD policy
  • Discuss enforcement strategies for AOD policy
  • Discuss consistent sanctioning for AOD policy violations
  • Review program and policy to identify big what your picture AOD program entails

Annual Notification, Conclusion, and Recommendations

Overview:

The final session will focus on the annual notification requirement of the Drug-Free Schools Campuses Act and will aid participants in developing recommendations for improvement as the conclusion of the biennial review. This session will be conducted in a blended format, including webinar and open discussion.
