2019 National Meeting:

Keeping Pace with the Changing Landscape

July 29 – August 1, 2019 in Columbus, Ohio

Submission Deadline: March 1

The 2019 National Meeting Committee is seeking proposals that reflect the best thinking in the field, informed by theory, research, and practice. We are facing a time when the issues related to collegiate substance misuse are rapidly evolving. More states are adopting policies legalizing cannabis, more institutions are aware of the need to support students across the continuum of substance misuse, and the students on our campuses are more diverse in ways relevant to alcohol and other drug misuse and recovery. The field of prevention and recovery support are also changing, with research expanding the evidence to draw from, and a focus on creative approaches to integrating general well-being topics into focused efforts that impact student success.  Recognizing this changing landscape, we seek program proposals that highlight three main elements that are implicit within this theme: (1) identifying and understanding the changing environment, issues and population needs, (2) creative selection, adaptation, and integration of evidence-based responses to these changes, and (3) successfully implementing and evaluating programs, policies and practices in a sustainable and impactful way.

The committee invites proposals that:

-Reflect innovation and cutting edge ideas and programming within the three elements described within the theme.
-Stimulate and provoke discussion and audience engagement
-Present best-practice implementation steps which, whenever possible, have been evaluated within an implementation science framework
-Target new, mid-career, and seasoned campus professionals

The overall program will result in a diverse array of presenters and perspectives, including different expertise, different levels of experience, and a variety of institutional and organizational types.

General sessions will take place July 30 – August 1 and are 50 minutes in length. Additionally, the National Meeting will offer pre-conference sessions on July 29. These 3 hour sessions will provide attendees the opportunity to take a deeper dive into a focus area. A limited number of pre-conference sessions will be accepted. A follow-up request for additional information will take place prior to the acceptance of pre-conference proposals.

Applicants can expect a response in late April 2019.

Presenters of accepted proposals will be able to register at a discounted rate of $300.00. Presenters are responsible for their own travel, hotel, and per diem expenses.
