Know the Law

Violations of the alcohol policy and liquor laws are the most frequent violations on college campuses and in the surrounding communities. Students should receive copies of their campus alcohol policy every year as required by federal law.

Policies can also be seen on most campus safety webpages under the Campus Safety Reports. It is the responsibility of students and family members to know the policies and laws on your campus.

Many states have passed laws to protect individuals who take action to help a student whose health is in danger because of alcohol and drug misuse.  Campus officials will not assign any violations of University standards of conduct involving alcohol or drug use by the reporting student(s) that occurred at or immediately before the time of the incident. This law is often called the Good Samaritan Law.
