Peer educators play a critical role in promoting healthy decision-making among college students, yet many receive limited training on traffic safety and impaired driving prevention. This interactive webinar introduces the Get There Safely peer education program, a student-focused workshop designed to address distracted road use, alcohol- and cannabis-impaired driving, drowsy driving, and micromobility safety.
Participants will gain foundational knowledge about traffic safety issues impacting college campuses while learning practical facilitation strategies that engage student audiences through discussion, reflection, and peer-to-peer learning. The session will explore approaches for communicating evidence-based prevention messages, correcting misperceptions about student behavior, and promoting protective transportation choices.
Attendees will leave with the confidence and tools necessary to facilitate the workshop on their own campuses and support a culture of safer road use among students.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe key traffic safety issues impacting college students.
- Utilize social norms and health education techniques to address impaired road use among peers.
- Promote safer transportation choices and planning strategies that reduce impaired road use.
- Implement a peer-led traffic safety workshop using the Get There Safely curriculum.
