Reaching high-risk populations with effective prevention can be challenging. Screening is an underutilized tool in engaging both students and campus partners. However, the implementation of screening efforts, such as, Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment, often brings more questions than answers and behavior change. We know a campus-wide screening initiative has the potential to shift attitudes regarding high risk drinking as students are better able to identify signs of problematic use in their friends and learn the resources for responding. This presentation will try to address many of the aforementioned questions, while juxtaposing SBIRT, a traditional in-person modality, with ScreenU, HECAOD’s web-based screening tool with the same questions. We hope you can tune into this session to learn more about the positive impacts screening and ScreenU can have on campus.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the steps involved in Screening, Brief Intervention, & Referral to Treatment
  • Explain how ScreenU could be utilized in different areas of campus
  • List departments/area that can implement ScreenU
